Congratulations to Carolin Höfig for receiving one of the ten DGE poster awards generously supported by Novartis Pharmaceuticals on the occasion of the 60th German Congress of Endocrinology (DGE), Würzburg, Germany, March 15-17. Carolin Höfig presented a poster on the topic “The effects of 3-iodothyronamine on trace element status in male mice”.

JA-PED in Osnabrück
Members of SPP 1629 gave a talk during the 11th JA-PED
The JA-PED is the annual conference of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Pädiatrische Diabetologie (AGPD) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kinderendokrinologie und -diabetologie (DGKED). Heike Heuer, Heiko Krude and Lars Möller – members of SPP 1629 – gave a talk during the 11th conference (11.–13. November 2016) of the JA-PED in Osnabrück. They presented their latest results during the session „Schilddrüsenhormontransport, Resorption und Wirkung. Vom Allan-Herndon-Dudley-Syndrom (AHDS) zur Resistenz“.

Development of a „smart drug“ to treat metabolic complication of obesity by transport T3 exclusively in the liver and brown fat by the group of Matthias Tschöp and Timo Müller together with two Thyroid Trans Act partners (Köhrle and Biebermann)

“Young Investigator Award of the European Society of Endocrinology“ for SPP 1629 member
Congratulations Nancy Schanze
During the 18th European Congress of Endocrinology in Munich (28.–31. May 2016), Nancy Schanze has been awarded the “Young Investigator Award of the European Society of Endocrinology“ for her article “3-T1AM signaling in the rat thyrocyte cell line PCCL3”. Nancy Schanze is a PhD student at the subproject “Effects of thyronamines (TAM) and thyroacetic acid (TAC) metabolites on energy metabolism – mitochondrial function, Ca2+-signalling, plasma membrane action” (PIs: Prof. J. Köhrle & PD Dr. S. Mergler). The subproject is a part of the Priority Programme SPP 1629 which is funded by the DFG.

D.A.CH Tagung in Munich: “Von Basedow-Preis” for SPP 1629 member
Congratulations Sebastian Hönes
Sebastian Hönes received the “Von Basedow-Preis” 2016 of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Endokrinologie (DGE) for his studies on physiological effects of non-classical action of the thyroid hormone receptors TRα and TRβ. The prize was awarded at the D.A.CH Tagung in Munich. This work is part of the DFG funded project of PD Dr. Lars Möller within the Priority Programme SPP 1629.

Congratulations Juliane Weiner
For her research on the role of thyroid hormones and thermogenesis of adipose tissue Juliane Weiner has been awarded this year’s Novartis-Preis "Junge Endokrinologie". Juliane Weiner received the award at the D.A.CH Tagung 2016 in Munich (German Thyroid Association). This work is part of the DFG funded projects of Dr. A. Tönjes (TO 718/2-1) and Dr. K. Krause (KR 4258/1-1) within the Priority Programme SPP 1629.

Dr. Denise Zwanziger has received the „Karl-Oberdisse-Preis“ 2016 during the annual conference of the Nordrhein-Westfälische Gesellschaft für Endokrinologie und Diabetologie e. V. The award is endowed with 5000 Euro. Dr. Zwanziger got the award for her research about the characterization of the thyroid hormone transporter MCT8.

Van Meter Award Winner Announced by American Thyroid Association
Congratulations Christine Spitzweg!
We have just learned that our colleague Prof. Dr. Christine Spitzweg has received the prestigious “Van Meter Award” of the American Thyroid Association (ATA). The ATA honors Prof. Spitzweg’s work on NIS as target molecule, combining classical radioiodine therapy with innovative approaches in genetic therapy. In recognition of her outstanding work, Prof. Spitzweg was also newly elected into the ATA Board of Directors.
